Coprinus

The coprinus is an excellent edible mushroom. You can find it here in Europe from mid-April to November. It has pronounced scaly hats and usually grows in clusters, with specimens up to approx. 20 cm in height including the stem, which is hollow. It owes its well-known name "Schopftintling" to the black, ink-like liquid in which old specimens dissolve and which was previously also used as ink.

The Coprinus contains a balanced composition of vitamins (including vitamin C) and minerals, and thus makes an important contribution to the daily, healthy diet.

The high content of lectins and the contained L-ergothionine are of therapeutic interest. The polysaccharide fucogalactan was recently identified as a potential active ingredient.
